Stand For Something

Have you ever been put into a situation where you had to make a choice? A choice that would either make, or break you at that exact moment?  I feel Americans are at a breaking point. I am not talking about the end of the world, but I am speaking of the two options we have laid before us:
  • Doing all we can to preserve our founding documents, our God, and our ability to say we live in the greatest country ever created.
  • Watch them all be damaged and disfigured so as to not be able to recognize them ever again.
Have you had the thought that America might fail to exist as we know it? Were you okay with this? Have you thought "I need to do something to save our nation", but then followed it up with "someone else will do it", or "there is no use I can't do anything"? Have you followed those feelings of doubt with the rationalization of "but that could never happen anyway, we are America"?

"Rationalization is often called the “sour grapes defense.” This comes from one of Aesop’s fables. The fox wanted some grapes, but could not reach them. This caused him to feel pain, as he could not have what he wanted. He rationalized, “They were probably sour anyway” to turn them into something he didn’t really want, and thus couldn’t really be upset about not getting. It is an intellectual way to diminish pain or guilt. The old “They’re 50% less fat so I can eat twice as many” routine is the same. You make up a “logical” argument to avoid guilt" (psychpage.com).

If you have had these moments of desired action followed up by either rationalization, or an excuse as to why it could not happen, or not work, you are not alone. But there comes a time when we must quit making excuses and do something about it.

For years I have been studying the founding documents and reading books about the hubris of America. I have read books on monetary systems and the difference between Keynesian and Austrian economic theories. I have read books on the Federal Reserve, on the founders, books by F.A. Hayek, Locke, and Bastiat. I keep up to date on current events from all facets of the media and literature world. But why do I study these things? What good is it if I just retain the information? What good will all this studying do?

Then it hit me. I need to go out and do something. I need to do all I can to stand up for what I believe in. A good friend of mine holds a constitutional group once a month with some members of his church and I sent him a text today just to see how he was. One thing lead to another and we began to discuss starting another group, still based on the constitution, but more so to educate each other on current events and topics we are passionate about that will lead to action and that will influence our lives for the better.

So to make a long story short, this blog is for that new group. Over time as we begin to assemble, we will all have a login and be able to contribute to the blog.

The rules of the group are as follows:
  • Study and discuss topics that will and could have a personal effect on our lives
  • Gather facts and evidence to add to your topic of discussion
  • Use the principles of logic and reasoning when studying and discussing such topics. For example follow these three rules of rational thought:
    • Thesis: there are certain appearances; appearances appear.
    • Antithesis: there are incompatibilities between certain of these appearances; in such cases, one or both of them must be false.
    • Synthesis: some remaining appearances must be true; find out which!
  • Remain grounded on the principles of God and liberty
I thank you for reading and hope you will join us in educating and teaching one another.
